“You’re so kind”
That’s what people tell me
But they haven’t been in my mind
My heart is bruised and beaten
I keep hurting my own soul
If you could hear the words
that resound inside of me
“You’re a bully”
These past months, I’ve been more aware of my self-talk and how I think about myself.
People often describe me as kind or gentle, but let me tell you, I can be so rude and harsh to myself!
I want to challenge myself to be more intentional with my thought life.
As a Christian, I believe that the words God says about me are what I should align my thoughts and believes with. I recently saw this quote:
“I can't afford to have thoughts in my head about me that God doesn't have in His.”
Such a simple principle, but it can easily become a habit to give in to all the lies and negative thoughts. It’s time for me to focus on what God says, rather than my own negative thoughts and self-doubt.
If you also need some reminders, below I collected some powerful Bible verses that I’ll personally try to focus on in the coming weeks! I’ll probably hang some on my mirror, so I see them every morning. :)
2 Timothy 1:7
For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.
You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
because he trusts in you.
Trust in the Lord forever,
for the Lord God is an everlasting rock.
I can do all things through him who strengthens me.
For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!”
And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good,[h] for those who are called according to his purpose.
For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
For the Lord is good; his steadfast love endures forever, and his faithfulness to all generations.
